CF Care

Welcome to the CF CARE Hub

CF CARE (Cystic Fibrosis - Collaborative Adherence Resources & Education) is an educational initiative to support healthcare professionals in addressing adherence challenges faced in the treatment of cystic fibrosis.

The VASANA (Visual Analogue Scale for Adherence and Non-Adherence) tool, has been designed to help measure cystic fibrosis treatment adherence in your patients, and the ITP (Individualised Treatment Plan) tool has been designed to help patients take control of their treatment.

There is also an e-learning module to explore, helping you to deliver clear and effective patient education, and Motivational Interviewing (MI) resources, which have been designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to improve your individual practice of MI.

The VASANA and ITP tools are available in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish. The e-learning module is available in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Motivational Interviewing resources are available in Dutch, English, German, Italian and Spanish.

CF CARE is driven by an international committee of experts in the fields of respiratory medicine, paediatrics, pulmonology and psychology. Our experts have discussed and challenged the current thinking in treatment adherence in cystic fibrosis to develop this educational initiative.

CF CARE is funded entirely by Vertex Pharmaceuticals (Europe) Limited. The content has been prepared and developed by the steering committee with logistical and editorial support from the CF CARE secretariat, ApotheCom. Vertex has had an opportunity to review the content and tools for accuracy.

VASANA & ITP TOOLS

The VASANA and ITP tools are designed to help support you with discussions around adherence with your patients and empower them to take control of their treatment.

VASANA: Visual Analogue Scale for Adherence and Non-Adherence

  • A modular, patient-centred questionnaire to discuss self-management of cystic fibrosis with your patients

  • Patients can rate how they are getting on and highlight areas where they may need more support

  • Address suboptimal adherence using psychological
    behaviour‑change techniques

  • Review progress by comparing answers to questionnaires over time

ITP: Individual Treatment Plan

  • Create personalised cystic fibrosis treatment plans for your patients that are more than just a list of drugs and therapies

  • Address barriers to adherence

  • Reinforce the benefits of adherence

E-LEARNING MODULE

Delivering clear and effective patient education

This educational cystic fibrosis e-learning module is an interactive online tool developed to support you in delivering patient education. It aims to address:

  • Issues and adherence challenges that patients and caregivers face when managing a chronic disease at each key developmental stage

  • Optimal engagement strategies with patients, families and caregivers

  • Interventions to aid treatment adherence

The module is organised into nine non-linear, bite-sized sections, allowing you to access the information you need when you need it.

MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING RESOURCES

These resources have been developed to cover Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques, which can form an effective framework for improving patients’ openness to behavioural change.

The MI resources are designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to improve your individual practice of MI.

The resources include:

  • Five modules that explore the concept and application of MI, and provide practical guidance on initiating sessions and prompting discussion

  • Adherence and its Management Booklet, which provides background to the module content

  • Adherence Toolkit, which contains templates and tools to aid your practice of MI techniques
